Integrate Your Brain And Mental Training

Integrate Your Brain & Mental Training

w/ DrSteve @SportsShrink & Matt Mitchell @WilsonPractice

“Very little is needed to make a happy life;
it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”
-Marcus Aurelius

We all spend a good portion of our lives trying to create some sense of well-being. We go to work to buy the things we want and need; we create families, build careers, own possessions, develop relationships, and take care of our social ties etc. On some level, each day, each of us works to create a deeper sense of well-being.

What is interesting about this is that what we really need to create a happy life is within.

@DrDanSiegel suggests the best way to go about developing a happy or harmonious life is to work on integrating the various parts of your brain.

Dr. Siegel explains that similarly to the way our body’s organ systems interact, the different sections of our brain interact with each other. He explains that our brain has various sections and functions with a left and right brain and an upper and lower brain. To Achieve Your Personal Best, the goal is integration by creating new connections between neurons (brain cells). An optimal brain is one where all areas (e.g., upper, lower, right, and left) are United and ultimately working together.

In this short, informative clip, @DrDanSiegel briefly discusses areas of our brains that we can all work towards integrating.

Get started with basic Mental Training

Mental Training is the most important training…

Why?

Because every aspect of life and sport is mental, including relationships, work or school, training, and competition.

  1. Whether you know it or not, you are engaged in mental training 24hours a day.
  2. You can mentally train at any time, no matter if you are injured or sick.

Everyone Mental Trains all the time…

Why?

Because whether you are aware of it or not your mind is at work 24hours a day.

Because whether you are good at it or not your mind is at work 24hours a day.

  1. If you think (positive or negative) you are mentally training. That is, you are conditioning your mind for the best or worst.
  2. If you set goals, then you are mentally training.
  3. If you visualize, imagine or “see” in your mind yourself performing, you are mentally training.
  4. If you pay attention and concentrate during practice and during the competition, you are mentally training.
  5. If you have certain things (rituals and routines) you do at home, before practice, in the gym, before and during competitions, you are mentally training.
  6. If you breathe, you are mentally training.

All these activities mentioned above are skills and all skilled can be improved.

The problem is that most people are not self-aware and do not realize what they are doing most of the time.
